Discuss a photoshoot

01 / The approach

Images with a job to do.

A product detail page needs different information from an advertising image or a business introduction. The photography brief should make those differences clear. Start with the message, subjects and placements, then build a shot list that covers the essential views and useful variations. Agreeing where images will appear also helps determine crops, space for copy and the rights required for their use. When moving image is part of the same campaign, connect the shoot with videography and video production while keeping the still and video deliverables clearly defined.

02 / Scope & deliverables

Commercial photography scope.

The exact deliverables are agreed around your brief, priorities and starting point.

01

Brand & business photography

Plan images that explain the business and support its visual identity. Define which people, products, spaces and details matter to the story, then agree the subjects and compositions needed for the project.

02

Product & campaign imagery

Build the shot list around what customers need to see and what the campaign needs to communicate. Specify product views, important details, background requirements and variations instead of treating every image as interchangeable.

03

Website & social assets

Identify page layouts and social formats before the shoot. A wide website header, a product tile and a vertical social post need different compositions. Plan usable crops and space for text where the final layout requires it.

04

Creative direction & consistency

Agree references for mood, colour and composition, explaining what each reference should guide. Keep the visual approach consistent across the image set while allowing for the different purpose of each subject and placement.

05

Photoshoot preparation

Set priorities for the shoot and assign preparation responsibilities. Products, vehicles, spaces and people may need arranging or preparing before photography begins. Confirm location access, styling needs and relevant permissions when defining the production plan.

06

Selection, editing & delivery

Agree how images are selected, how many finished photographs are supplied and what editing covers. Define crops, sizes and formats for delivery. Detailed retouching, compositing and additional variants should be specified separately rather than assumed.

03 / From brief to delivery

From shot plan to approved images.

  1. 01

    Define the image brief

Review your brand, subjects and intended use. Agree the essential shots, visual references, final image count, production responsibilities and review stages before scheduling the photography.

  2. 02

    Prepare & photograph

Confirm that subjects and locations are ready. Work through the agreed compositions and priority details, considering the crop and layout requirements of the finished assets.

  3. 03

    Select & finish

Follow the agreed selection and feedback process, complete the scoped image finishing and deliver the approved files for their specified placements and usage.

Before we begin

Commercial photography questions.

How many finished photographs are included?

The proposal specifies the number of selected and edited images, together with any crop variants. The number of frames captured during a shoot is different from the number of finished photographs delivered. Share the planned placements to help define a useful image list.

Does photography include retouching?

The level of editing is agreed in the scope. Colour and tonal adjustments, clean-up, detailed retouching and compositing involve different work. Identify the required finish with references and specify any product details that must remain accurate.

Can the images be used on our website, social channels and ads?

List those uses before production so the image formats and usage terms can be agreed. The required media, duration and territory may affect permissions for photography, people, property or other material. Receiving an image file does not by itself define every permitted use.

Can photography and video be planned together?

Yes. A shared creative direction can connect them, but each needs its own shot priorities and production time. Include both deliverable lists in the brief so still images are planned deliberately alongside the filmed scenes.
